An Open Letter to Parents, Guardians, and the Westwood Elementary Community:
Dear Westwood Families,
I am beyond excited to open the doors for the upcoming school year. I have deeply missed seeing our students and staff and I am eager to continue on with their educational journey. I anticipate many of you are feeling anxious, excited or even a little fearful at the idea of starting a new school year as our world continues to change around us.
Please know that our staff has been taking every precaution to ensure our school building is safe for your child’s return. Over the past two weeks, we have been working diligently to create a re-entry plan that outlines our daily procedures to maintain physical distancing, structure transitions and establish clear expectations for daily routines. It will also include detailed dismissal and arrival plans that will be followed and maintained to allow for daily temperature checks. This plan will be shared with our families on August 24th though email and on our district website.
On behalf of our Westwood staff, we commit to standing with you and relentlessly working together to maintain a healthy community where each and ever child, family, and educator can thrive in a safe environment. Therefore, masks will be required for students and staff and will only be removed for short amounts of time throughout the school day. Set aside some time to allow your child to pick out masks that are unique, special or fun! This will help encourage them to wear them. This website serves as a resource for you to help ease your child into this transition while building stamina so they can learn to wear masks for extended periods of time. In addition, Westwood will no longer allow visitors into the building to include parents and family members. Parents and visitors will call the school and office staff will accommodate our families and their individual needs. Now, more the ever, your support and cooperation are so deeply appreciated by every member of the Westwood staff.
We pride ourselves at Westwood on being a School Family and these types of procedures seem to contradict that philosophy. However, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, we will continue to take precautions to maintain the safety and well-being of our beloved community. We will still work to provide a family atmosphere for your child. All of us at Westwood have an obligation to not only teach your children, but to nurture them and provide a safe environment. I always tell the children that my number one job is to keep everyone safe and that I cannot do that job alone. I ask them to help me and as parents I am asking for support from each of you. While things may look a little different right now; our love, care and devotion to your child’s education will remain.
Mrs. Kim Dressman, Principal
