Can anyone really have too many tamales? According to Maria and her cousins Dolores, Teresa, and Danny, the answer is yes! However, Mrs. Allen-Atkinson’s kindergarteners didn’t agree with the characters in Gary Soto’s book Too Many Tamales.
The kindergarteners enjoyed interacting with the book as Mrs. Allen-Atkinson read to them. Then the fun part began! They joined Mrs. Hudson who showed them how to make tamales. These assembly line chefs had fun spreading masa on the husks, filling them with meat, and rolling them. Later in the day they had a grand feast of tamales, refried beans, and Spanish rice.
