The Little Pollinators

Students Dressed as Insects

Second graders at Westwood Elementary have been immersed in learning about life cycles of plants and bugs for several weeks now.  A great culminating activity was sought and the Reader’s Theater titled “The Little Pollinators” was born.  Students studied their specific pollinator so they could take on the character in true form and have enough knowledge to answer questions about all the unique characteristics.  The students helped create costumes and designed the backdrop for their drama event in a bountiful garden.

They practiced their communication skills as well, learning to project their voices for the two different classes that attended each of six showings.  When students were asked about the project at the cast party, everyone agreed it was something they wanted to do again.  Some were inspired to look into the summer Little Theater, so be on the lookout for these performers in the future in our community!
