Winter Reminders
Students will go outside for recess if the temperature or wind chill
factor is above 20 degrees. Please keep your winter safety
guidelines near in case we have a bad winter storm. It lists the radio
stations to listen to for the school cancellations or early dismissals.
With additional winter weather approaching, we will have a lot of
boots, gloves, hats, coats, etc. and it is so helpful if you can put
initials, a name, or some identifying mark on your child’s
belongings. This helps ensure that items are returned to the owner
when they are left on the playground or in various areas throughout
the building.
We also need lunch boxes and backpacks to have names or initials
on them.

4th Grade Leadership Retreat
The Westwood PTO has arranged an overnight 4th grade
leadership retreat for our current 4th grade students that will take
place in the spring. This is an amazing opportunity for our students
and we are extremely thankful to our PTO for the time and energy
they have put into organizing this event.
We will have a short parent meeting to communicate details and the
criteria for student participation on Thursday, January 9th at 5:00 in
the Westwood library.
We are hopeful that you will be able to attend. Please don’t hesitate
to call the office if you have questions.

Westwood Security
The Westwood staff is extremely grateful for the added level of
security that our controlled entrance provides. Non-school
personnel are asked to sign in each time they are needing to be in
the building. Parents are not allowed to enter the building at any
entrance other than the main entrance.
All of us at Westwood have an obligation to not only teach our
children, but to nurture them and provide a safe environment.

Absences
Be sure to call in your child’s absence by 8:30 a.m. If a parent doesn’t call, the absence is unexcused.

Phone Numbers
If you change your phone number please notify the office. It is very
important that we are able to reach parents in case of an emergency.

Safety Tip
Be sure your child knows their home address, phone number and the name of their parents’ place(s) of work. Remind your child to never go anywhere with a stranger.
